On the 3rd of July 1938 the Mallard raced down Stoke Bank setting a new steam locomotive world record at 126mph. Its amazing to think that this record has never been beaten in 75 years. The York National Railway Museum is marking this event with a series of commemorative events. One of these events is the Great Gathering The Mallard will be alongside five other sister locomotives. I must say its amazing to see you should add it to your list of things to do here in York. For the Great Gathering The Mallard is alongside: Sir Nigel Gresley, Union Of South Africa, Bittern, Dwight D Eisenhower and the Dominion Of Canada. See you all at the York National Museum.
